Private Art from the Street is a documentation of painted images on suburban garage doors in the Midwest, primarily in the Chicago Area. The garage door art or if you prefer suburban graffiti appeared before Facebook, Instagram, or Post-Internet. The projects are self motivated done between 1989 and 2005.
Individuality expressed by the homeowner is by their own hand or commissioned artists. The homeowners present bold choices, images unique to their own visual experience, some images are awkward some suggest attitude some are symbolic, humorous, or sentimental, the art is presented to the neighbors the viewers in this very public gallery freely.
As you travel through your own neighborhood take time to look around there is an uncurated collection quietly presented for your appreciation.
